Do I Need Previous Experience?
No sailing experience is required—just a desire for a unique adventure at sea. However, physical and mental resilience are important, as life onboard can be challenging.
What’s It Like Sailing with Strangers?
Living in close quarters with new people requires an open mind and acceptance of different personalities. However, everyone shares the same goal: crossing the ocean together. If you’d prefer company, feel free to invite a friend.
Who Can Join, and What Are the Requirements?
Anyone with an adventurous spirit, who doesn’t mind limited space, minimal privacy, and few comforts, is welcome. Mental flexibility and the ability to adapt to nature and sea conditions are essential.
How Should I Prepare?
Life onboard isn’t easy. The boat is always moving, making simple tasks like brushing your teeth, eating, or using the restroom more challenging. But in return, you’ll experience breathtaking sunsets, marine life, and starry nights—memories that will last forever.

What’s Expected of Me?
Check out our article “What to Expect from a High Seas Cruise” to understand your role onboard.
How Do Shifts Work?
You will always be paired with a shift partner. Shifts last 2–4 hours, depending on sea conditions, and there are no exceptions—everyone must participate. The Commander will give safety instructions, especially for night shifts.
- The new shift must wake up 15 minutes early to prepare.
- If needed, wake up your partner to ensure a smooth transition.
- The current shift is responsible for waking the replacement shift.
Discipline and teamwork are crucial for everyone’s safety and rest.
Will There Be Internet?
No WiFi is available onboard. However, we have an Iridium device for emergency communication and weather updates. Sending messages or emails is not possible.
What Should I Bring?
A detailed packing list will be emailed to you. You can also check the page “What to Expect on a High Seas Journey” for a tentative list.
How Do I Plan My Return Trip?
Do not book flights for the planned arrival date—arrival times are unpredictable. Instead, schedule your return at least three days after the expected date or wait until we are close to port.
Is Insurance Required?
Yes, our trips are covered by Pantaenius Insurance, which exceeds legal requirements in Portugal. It includes:
- Personal accident coverage
- Disability and death benefits
- Medical assistance abroad
- Search and rescue coverage
You may purchase additional insurance if desired.
How Long Will the Trip Last?
Departure times are fixed as much as possible, but arrival dates can be delayed due to weather conditions.
- The trip officially starts on the first day of the security session.
- It ends when we dock at the final port, or a nearby port if conditions require it.
- Once we arrive, you are responsible for yourself. Accommodation and food are not included beyond the arrival day, except in cases of late-night arrivals.
